From 21 to 23 August 2026, Voio becomes a meeting place between tradition and the present, knowledge and creation, art and the deeper human search for light.

Methexi invites the participants on a distinctive, three-day journey into the world of Byzantine art and icon painting. Through lectures, hands-on workshops, visits to churches and monastic sites, walks through places of historical memory, and moments of shared experience, the program seeks to approach the sacred image not merely as a work of art, but as a vessel of theology, culture, and spiritual meaning.

Light, line, colour, and the contemplative study of Christ’s Transfiguration become pathways to spiritual reflection and creative expression. Silence, patience, fellowship, and self-offering reveal the deeper essence of an art that transcends technical skill, becoming a way of perceiving the world and approaching its mystery.

Beginning in Rodohori and continuing through

Driovouno and Eratyra, the program brings together workshop and liturgical space, theory and practice, cultural heritage and lived experience. At its heart lies the idea of encounter: with art, with place, with community, and with the light that has travelled through the centuries and continues to inspire.

Participation in the workshops and lectures is free of charge, with a limited number of places available.

«Φως ἐκ Φωτός» — Ο πλούτος των Βυζαντινών Τεχνών

Από τις 21 έως τις 23 Αυγούστου 2026, το Βόιο γίνεται τόπος συνάντησης της παράδοσης με το παρόν, της γνώσης με τη δημιουργία, της τέχνης με τη βαθύτερη αναζήτηση του φωτός.

Η Μέθεξη προσκαλεί σε ένα ιδιαίτερο, τριήμερο οδοιπορικό στον κόσμο της βυζαντινής τέχνης και της αγιογραφίας. Μέσα από εισηγήσεις, βιωματικά εργαστήρια, επισκέψεις σε ναούς και μοναστηριακούς χώρους, περιηγήσεις σε τόπους ιστορικής μνήμης και στιγμές κοινής συνύπαρξης, επιχειρείται μια ουσιαστική προσέγγιση της εικόνας όχι μόνο ως καλλιτεχνικού έργου, αλλά ως φορέα θεολογίας, πολιτισμού και πνευματικής εμπειρίας.

Το φως, το σχέδιο, το χρώμα και η σπουδή στη μορφή του Μεταμορφωμένου Χριστού γίνονται αφορμές για στοχασμό και δημιουργία. Η σιωπή, η υπομονή, η κοινότητα και η προσφορά αναδεικνύονται ως συστατικά μιας τέχνης που δεν εξαντλείται στην τεχνική, αλλά μεταμορφώνεται σε τρόπο θέασης του κόσμου.

Με αφετηρία το Ροδοχώρι και σταθμούς στο Δρυόβουνο και την Εράτυρα, το πρόγραμμα συνδέει το εργαστήριο με τον λατρευτικό χώρο, τη θεωρία με την πράξη και την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά με τη ζωντανή εμπειρία. Στο επίκεντρο βρίσκεται η συνάντηση: με την τέχνη, με τον τόπο, με την κοινότητα και με εκείνο το φως που διαπερνά τους αιώνες και εξακολουθεί να εμπνέει.

Η συμμετοχή στα εργαστήρια και στις εισηγήσεις είναι δωρεάν, με περιορισμένο αριθμό θέσεων.

Kozani is the home of photographer Dimitris Vliagoftis. It is a provincial city with a long history and rich tradition, currently seeking to redefine its modern identity and secure a positive outlook for the future.

Dimitris often moves through the city’s narrow, labyrinthine streets due to his profession. A genuine, deep-seated urge prevents him from being a mere spectator of the daily life that flows sometimes fast and sometimes slow. He photographs incessantly. He opens his lens and captures the seemingly insignificant, the essential, the mundane, the unworthy of mention, and sometimes even what might be described as ugly or unsightly. This is KOZANI ALLIOS (A Different Kozani).

These photographs served as the inspiration for a complex, multi-faceted event curated by Christina Matiaki and scheduled to be presented on the weekend of November 8th and 9th, 2025, at the “Kikis” factory. The event is also enriched by the talented Giannis Mitrousis, who will leave the beauties of the metropolis to musically support the exhibition. This is an event with a limited number of seats, and the first weekend is already SOLD OUT!

Those who did not manage to book a seat for this weekend can register their interest to participate in the repeat of the event.

The absence of direct access to sea. In the past, following the decades after 2nd World War, the region, having mineral wealth and especially lignite deposits, had taken up the responsibility of the biggest percentage of energy production in the country (thus the nickname used mostly by the locals “energiaki kardia”= “the heart of energy” of Greece).

Due to the global ecological crisis the region is forced to undergo abrupt and radical changes. Thousands of highly trained technical workers and communities that were financially based mostly on the mining of the coal must find solutions and alternative forms of employment in a very brief period of time. A violent transition.

But Western Macedonia isn’t only a place of mineral wealth. It is an amalgam of people coming from faraway lands, traditions with deep history, rich cultural and artistic life. An untapped pool of potentials.

All in all, this is the beginning of the journey of a community towards its new identity.

THE PRODUCER:

This documentary is a production of the cultural organization “Methexi”. Methexi is an international cooperation of people from 3 European countries (Greece, Italy, Romania). All the activities and initiatives of Methexi have an international character and are always structured to address to an open and diverse audience. The main subject of the documentary is about the global energy crisis and the transition of the specific society of Western Macedonia.

A society passing from an economy completely based on lignite mining to more sustainable and ecological solutions. The same problems are now faced up by different countries in all Europe especially where energy production is or was based. In reality the documentary is about the journey of a community towards a new identity and a matter of global concern.

THE DIRECTOR:

Dario Patriarchi (Rome, 1985), is a freelance in marketing and videomaker. Degree in Communication Sciences (Roma Tre University, Communication in the society of globalization), Master in “Marketing Management”. He collaborated in video production with the Dante Alighieri Society, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture. In recent years have made videos for educational institutions, musical videoclips, commercials for companies, sport filming, musical and cultural events, public and private.

Στις 30 Σεπτεμβρίου και ώρα 19.30 ο κ. Catalin Constantin, καθηγητής εθνολογίας και ανθρωπολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου του Βουκουρεστίου, θα παρουσιάσει το βιβλίο του με τίτλο «Πόλεις Συνοπτικά, Πλατείες της Ευρώπης και οι Ιστορίες τους» μετά από πρόσκληση της Διεθνούς Συνεργασίας για τον Πολιτισμό & τις Τέχνες, «Μέθεξη». Παράλληλα με την παρουσίαση του βιβλίου του ο κ. Constantin θα εκθέσει ένα μέρος των αεροφωτογραφιών που εμπεριέχονται σε αυτή την έκδοση.

Βασικός σκοπός της εκδήλωσης είναι εκτός από την παρουσίαση του βιβλίου του κ. Constantin, η σύνδεση του εν λόγω έργου με τη δημιουργική πρόθεση της πλατείας της πόλης της Κοζάνης καθώς και του νέου κτιρίου της βιβλιοθήκης, μέσω ενός δημόσιου διαλόγου του συγγραφέως με τεχνικούς συντελεστές που συνδέονται με την κατασκευή των προαναφερθέντων δημοσίων χώρων.

Καλεσμένοι το απόγευμα στις 30 Σεπτεμβρίου και ώρα 19.30 (όπου θα πραγματοποιηθεί μια μικρή διάλεξη με τον κ. Constantin) είναι επίσης οι:

Στην κατεύθυνση αυτή θα συνδράμουν εικαστικά τοπικοί φωτογράφοι και συλλέκτες, οι οποίοι θα παρουσιάσουν την ιστορική πορεία της πλατείας της πόλης μας μέσα από φωτογραφίες του αρχείου τους.

Στη συνέχεια θα γίνουν τα εγκαίνια της φωτογραφικής έκθεσης που θα φιλοξενείται στο Φουαγιέ του νέου κτιρίου της Κ.Δ.Β.Κ. και θα περιλαμβάνει
– ψηφιακές φωτογραφίες από το βιβλίο του κ. Catalin Constantin
– φωτογραφικά στιγμιότυπα από την ιστορική πορεία της πλατείας της Κοζάνης μέσα από το λεύκωμα «Κοζάνη: Οδοιπορικό στο χρόνο» του κ.Τσιομπάνου Γιάννη και έργα φωτογράφων της πόλης, όπως του κ. Μάρκου Πατσίκα, της κ. Στέλλας Δέσσου, του κ. Κώστα Καραδήμου και του κ. Αργύρη Καραμούζα συνοδευόμενα από τη μουσική του κ. Νίκου Χαλβατζή.
